Welcome to VOCM Cares

The VOCM Cares Foundation is a public foundation of Steele Communications.  The Foundation is mandated to raise funds for charitable causes involving the health, education and safety of the community at large. Since its inception, the organization has grown to become the focal point for the VOCM radio network’s community involvement.

The foundation utilizes company resources to help raise funds for charity. Over the years, VOCM Cares has raised and distributed more than $7,000,000 to local charities, and provides funding on a project by project basis. Applications for project funding are reviewed by the Board of Directors before funds are released. The Board is independent of the VOCM Radio Network’s operations and meets quarterly to consider new requests from local charities.

Fundraising endeavours include things like a Radio Bingo Project conducted in conjunction with Lions Clubs in the Province, annual golf tournaments, various lottery campaigns and Radio-Thon pledge days hosted on behalf of other charities. The radio network receives no funding for hosting these Radio-Thon events but a contribution to the work of VOCM Cares adds to the foundation’s ability to provide project grants to other charities.

Today VOCM Cares is a high profile public foundation in Newfoundland and Labrador and is poised to bring even more influence to the charitable sector. VOCM Cares is committed to community capacity building and under a new initiative designed to meet this commitment, the foundation is providing training dollars to organizations seeking to educate volunteers, management and service delivery personnel in the operation of not-for-profit corporations. For example, the foundation is a strong supporter of the Newfoundland and Labrador Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP). As well, VOCM Cares is an annual sponsor of Volunteer Week, a province wide initiative of the Community Services Council.
