Canadian Red Cross\VOCM Cares Live Free for a Year Lottery

The Live Free For A Year Lottery is an annual project in partnership with the Canadian Red Cross and the VOCM Cares Foundation. Tickets can be purchased at various dates at most major retail outlets such as Wal-Marts and major shopping centres around the province. For a complete list of retail outlets, please click here.

Advocis Golf Tournament

Since 1994, Advocis, the local association chapter of professional financial planners, have spearheaded an annual golf tournament with proceeds being shared between the Loretta Quirke-Dwyer Scholarship Fund, the VOCM Cares Foundation and the K-Rock Children's Trust Fund.

On the first Monday in July, approximately 170 golf players converge at The Wilds Golf Resort on Salmonier Line for 18 holes of golf. This tournament has become a "tradition" for most of the players and a favorite among many.

This partnering with Advocis sees a very dedicated team of volunteers come together each year with one sole purpose - to raise much needed funds for charity. The VOCM Cares Foundation is grateful to be one of the selected recipients and looks forward to an exceptional tournament each summer.

On July6, 2009 this tournament celebrated it's 15th Anniversary and was successful in raising over $46,000. Thank you to all of our sponsors, volunteers, comittee members and teams for helping to acheive this goal.

VOCM Dial-A-Carol

Dial-A-Carol" is an annual VOCM Christmas tradition. For more than two decades this program has raised funds in support of local charities. Listeners are given the opportunity to call into the program to pledge their support and in return request their favorite Christmas carol. Dial-A-Carol has become a special tradition for many in the St. John’s area and in particular for those Newfoundlanders living outside of the province wishing to send Christmas greetings to loved ones at home. Today’s technology permits listeners across the globe to pledge their support via www.vocm.com. The 2008 Dial-A-Carol Program raised $25,000 for Daffodil Place.

Lions Club/VOCM Cares Super Radio Bingo

The single largest fundraiser for the VOCM Cares Foundation is the Lions Club/VOCM Cares Super Radio Bingo. Utilizing the 28 provincial transmitters of NewCap Inc.an hour long bingo game is conducted on Saturday evenings on all stations of the VOCM/CFCB Network. Cards are distributed throughout the province by Lions Club members as well as individual sellers where there is no active Lions Club. The game consists of 4 different bingos: 1st Game = $500, 2nd Game = $1,000, 3rd Game = $1,500 and the 4th Game is an escalating Jackpot and grows until it is maxed. Fourteen weeks of bingo are conducted Saturday evenings in the Fall (September to December) and 14 weeks in the Winter (January to April), 6:00pm in Newfoundland and 5:30 in Labrador. Cards are only $2.50 each and can be purchased at most retail outlets.


Radiothons

The VOCM Cares Foundation supports a number of annual radio-thons held on stations of the VOCM/CFCB Radio Network in support of adult healthcare in the province.

Children’s Wish Foundation Radio-Thon:

The VOCM Cares Foundation has a special relationship with the Children’s Wish Foundation as VOCM was instrumental in founding the Newfoundland and Labrador Chapter in 1986. As a result, the VOCM Cares Foundation is a major sponsor of the Children’s Wish Foundation. Each year the radio network uses its resources to support this charity through an annual radio-thon appeal. Pledges are accepted over the phone and read aloud on air for a four-hour period during the live show. Announcers from VOCM volunteer their time and talent to host the program and encourage listeners to pledge their support. The 2009 radio-thon raised $78,000.

Garden of Hope Radio-Thon:

The VOCM/CFCB Garden of Hope radio-thon is an annual province-wide event that raises funds to develop and maintain the Gardens of Hope in St. John's and Corner Brook, as well as providing funds for equipment and patient support programs. This year the radio-thon raised l over $100,000.
