VOCM Cares Project Funding helping local groups thrive

The VOCM Cares Team were out and about this week, presenting cheques to the recipients of our Project Funding Program. Congratulations to everyone who recieved funding, you deserve it!



Aside from their spectacular shows, The Wonderbolt Circus does quite a lot of outreach work, including work with sight impaired children, native communities in Labrador, as well as providing opportunities for children from low-income families to attend circus camp. They received $3000 to help support their circus camp.


The Duke of Edinburgh provides youth between ages 14-24 with a supportive, non-competitive framework for self-development that will deepen their self-awareness and broaden their skills and experiences for a lifelong positive impact in themselves and their community. They received $5000 from VOCM Cares.


 The Miss Achievement organization provides a forum for young woman ages 13-18 to express their opinions, challenge themselves to be their best and reward them for their efforts.It is the province's largest scholarship program for young women, which awards individuals for academics, promotion of healthy living, public speaking, community service, volunteer work, environmental awareness and performance-related talents.


School Lunch Association's mission is to offer a hot nutritious lunch to children, regardless of their family's ability to pay. Each school day approximately 4,000 hot meals are prepared and served to local school children. They received $5000 to help support their valuable work.


Roots of Empathy is an evidence-based classroom program that has shown significant effect in reducing levels of aggression and bullying among school children while raising social/emotional competence and increasing empathy. We are proud to help support such a great initiative by providing them with $5500.


The Gathering Place is a service centre committed to building community, promoting equality and providing nourishment for those seeking respite from isolation and loneliness; it exist to meet the needs of those people whom society have failed. They were presented with $13,000.
