As a proud sponsor of the event, VOCM Cares attended the luncheon this afternoon where the RCMP and RNC officers of the year were named.
Constable Darryl MacMullin of Natuashish Detachment has been named for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, while Sergeant Jason Sheppard of North East Avalon Division has won the award for the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary.
The other finalists for the RCMP were Cpl. Darren Stevens of Bell Island Detachment and Cpl. Sheldon Hynes of Harbour Breton Detachment. While the other finalists for the RNC were Cst. Perry Priddle of Churchill Falls Division and Cst. John Turpin of North East Avalon Division.
Mr. Chris Brake the Co-Chairperson of Newfoundland and Labrador Crime Stoppers, said this year's Police Officers of the Year Award has far exceeded all expectations. "From the quality of the nominations themselves, to the attendance at the awards banquet, it has been a first-class event. This event has provided the public with the opportunity to honour police officers who risk their lives every day to make our province a safer place in which to live, and who go that extra step above and beyond the call of duty."
VOCM Cares would like to extend congratulations to the 6 finalists and to all those nominated this year.
