VOCM Cares sponsored and attended the Police Officer of the Year ceremonies where a winner from both the RCMP and the RNC were honored.

This years Volunteer Week will be taking place April 15th-April 21st with a variety of events around the community for local volunteers.

Each year numerous companies groups and individuals generously donate to the VOCM Happy Tree. Here are some of this years donors:

On December 7th VOCM Cares hosted a Radiothon on 590 VOCM, in gap court Avalon Mall, to raise funds for Newfoundlands first Ronald McDonald House. Over $70,000 was raised making the event a huge success!

The 2011 Dial-A-Carol was a great success raising $6500 for the VOCM Cares Foundation, while kicking off the Christmas music season on 590 VOCM.

On November 21st people of all ages gathered at Gap Court Avalon Mall to help wake up Happy! Entertainment for the evening was provided by the Salvation Army band and Choir.

The annual Metrobus/VOCM Cares Thanksgiving Food Drive was a huge success. Some 50,000 pounds of food was collected through this week long drive, an increase of 25% from last year. The Community Food Sharing Association’s Eg Walters says "…this food will go a long way in supporting families in need across the province". Metrobus and VOCM Cares would like to thank everyone who contributed to this worthy cause.

This year the VOCM Cares Foundation opened a rest stop for the public at the Royal St. John's Regatta. Snacks, water, and activities for children were also available at the rest stop. What a great opportunity to support our community.

The 2011 Annual RCMP Klondike Night was a great success. VOCM Cares was a proud supporter of the event.

On December 8th, 2010, the VOCM Cares Foundation organized a radiothon on the VOCM CFCB radio network to raise funds for Newfoundland and Labradors first Ronald McDonald House. The event proved to be a great success with funds raised totaling over, $130, 000!

This years Advocis Charity Golf Tournament was held on July 4th and raised over $45,000 for the Loretta Quirke-Dwyer Memorial Scholarship Fund, the K-Rock Children's Trust Fund and the VOCM Cares Foundation.

Each year the Red Cross/VOCM Cares Cash Lottery awards one lucky winner with a grand prize of 30,000$!

The Annual Dial a Carol is a Newfoundland tradition.

Each Year the Avalon Mall and VOCM partner to support those in need during the Christmas Season. In November people gather at the gap court of the Avalon Mall for the Happy Tree Launch. This launch results in many toys being collected for the Salvation Army to distribute to those in need at Christmas.

In 2010 Hurricane Igor hit Newfoundland and Labrador. 590 VOCM, 99.1 Hits FM and 97.5 K-Rock, stations of the Steele Communications, came together to hold a radio-thon to raise funds for the people of our province. Thanks to everyone who pledged their support and because of that support we were able to raise over 1-Million Dollars!!

After a devastation earth quake, the radio stations of the Steele Communications and the Canadian Red Cross came together to host a radio-thon which raised over 360,000$ for the victims in Haiti.
